We read Chapter 6 and the related discussion questions on pages 148-149.
Key parts of the reading include:
- "Brain research shows that when people give their money away to help others or to a charity, it impacts the brain's reward center, the part of the brain that causes feelings of joy and euphoria. The researchers concluded that acts of financial generosity make a physiological impact on people, resulting in feelings of happiness, well-being, and contentment." And these feeling are long-term, leading to happiness.
- Scripture also teaches that generosity leads to contentment and well-being. A few of the many Biblical texts include Proverbs 11:24-25, Mark 9:35, and Isaiah 58:6-14.
- "Perhaps the best way to practice generosity is to do so with your time and your money. Countless opportunities exist for doing so, both in your church and your community... All you have to do is look." And act.
