We shared which one story from the chapter resonated with us. Then we did the "3 Blessings" exercise from pages 35-36 of the book.
Two points from this chapter to highlight:
- Fostering optimism is an act of discipline. It takes intentionality and work and practice.
- Cultivating optimism is an act of faith, rooted in the belief that if God can raise Jesus from the dead, then any situation has hope, including death itself.
Jayne challenged us to this Evening Learning Opportunity for this week:
- Write down 3 -5 things that went well today; they can be small and ordinary in importance. Think about why you felt these were good and positive.
- Pick one of the things you wrote down
- Focus on dreaming about it and repeat your dream wish as you close your eyes.
- Next morning, write down what you dreamed and note your mood/feelings when you awoke.
- If you are willing to share one with the group next week, we will make time for that.
